To the Editor:

If your household is like mine, you received your census materials last week in the mail.

PLEASE, make sure you take a few minutes (really, it takes only a few) to sit down, fill them out, and send them in.

Why? 

First of all, because an accurate head count assures us of state and federal funding that is based on per-capita distribution. Undercounting will cheat us out of much-needed monies for our county, our schools, our hospital and all programs that are so dependent on everyone’s tax dollars to function.

We also need to provide full and accurate counts so that we are not deprived of representation in Congress, which is, as we all know, based on population.

If you are hesitant about providing your name, age, race and marital status, just remember how much of a thrill it is to look back at old census rolls as you locate forgotten ancestors. Not only are you protecting everyone financially and politically, you are also helping preserve accurate records for posterity.

Yes, we are living through some hard times as a nation these days, both emotionally and physically, but please don’t forget to take a few minutes to fill out and return your 2020 Census materials. 

If, for some reason, you haven’t received a mailing, you can also complete the Census online at http://2020census.gov

Once again, let’s all do our share to make Davis County count!
